a visit to kentucky

This weekend I drove down to Kentucky to visit my good friend Tiffany and her family. Jackson got to watch endless football at home and I got to tour historical sites to my hearts content. A good weekend for all.

There weren't any races this weekend but they were have a large horse auction. We watched them parade the horses around before taking them in to be auctioned off.

We toured the Henry Clay estate, Ashland. It was one of most well preserved homes I have seen. It was amazing!

a few things I forgot...

I forgot all about hand cramps while taking notes,

how to speed read assignments,

what a serial (and masterful) procrastinator I am,

reading the same sentence over five times trying to remember what the big words mean,

highlighting in a straight line is impossible.

Good to be back.

greek?

This week Jackson had a patient ask him if he was of Greek descent. Last year he had a patient ask if he was of Polish decent. He is also often asked if he is of Jewish descent and last year we had a poll on the blog where most people voted he looked like he was of Serbian descent.

Apparently he looks very ethnic, especially considering I am pretty sure he is mostly of British descent.

What do you think? Is Jackson a modern day Adonis (aka a Greek God) or a Polish folk dancer? I am leaning towards the folk dancer myself.

Michigan vs. Notre Dame

Going to the Big House is always a great experience, especially when they beat the Irish in a great game 38-34. Cara got two free tickets from her work on the 4th row.

The band is huge at Michigan and it is tradition to have the band leader do this before each game.

He bends backwards until his head touches the ground. I am not sure why, but it is pretty impressive.

Back to School... for Cara

Cara is going back to school this fall. She started her classes last week at Eastern Michigan University. She is getting her masters in social studies in American culture.

She is so excited that she jumped off our porch. Here she is right before she jumps. Doesn't she looked pumped.

And she still has time to harvest in the field picking raspberries.

I had a feeling when I put on my red and white Sunday morning that Rachel would be sporting blue and white. I was right, so we took a picture and I promised to make no disparaging comments about BYU if I posted this on the blog.

P.S. I promise we do like things other than Utah football (see post below). Don't worry the fanaticism will die down around January, just in time for basketball season to pick up.

thurgoods come to visit

We had a fabulous weekend. Our friends Matt and Jenny T. (yes, we have to distinguish between Matt and Jenny T. and Matt and Jenny J.) came out to visit us. We took them all around town and showed them our favorite sites and they learned all about Jackson's aversion to air conditioning, got a taste for my competitive nature (I made them play about 10 different games in one night) and Hobbes' obsession with the laser.

Jackson begged me to be a little more smooth with my oars, apparently they were soaking him every time they came out of the water.

game week

This is Jackson's dream room found via Utefans. Our Ute wall is evolving. For the game opener gift (if you remember the first game of the season is treated as a holiday in our home) we bought a vinyl U and we came home with a couple other additions for our own Ute Wall. Jackson's Mom also bought us Utah salt and pepper shakers. We are ready for football season. Go Utes!
