Eden

We went with the Owen family to Eden for a family reunion. We played tennis, swam at the pool, made diet coke mentos explosions, shot marshmallows out of marshmallow guns, played with babies, ate at all 2 of the Eden restaurants, and even spent a day on the lake on jet skis. It was a lot of fun. Edith and Whitman miss playing with everyone and can't wait for the next one.

All blessed

We blessed the babies at my parents house while we were in Salt Lake. Edith was blessed in my blessing dress with a quilt made for my Dad by his great-grandmother Edith when he was born and Whitman was blessed in an outfit procured that same day and a blanket knitted for him by Grandma Owen. It was a beautiful night and we were lucky to have lots of friends and family come and participate.

Granny

While we were in Salt Lake my dear sweet Granny passed away. I was lucky enough to get to spend some time with her in the week before she passed and I will always cherish that time. I am so glad she got to meet Edith (who is named for my Granny's mother and grandmother) and Whitman. Despite being weak and in pain Granny really wanted to hold the babies so we laid them each in her arm and she kissed them and just looked at them, it was so sweet. I am so thankful for my sweet Granny and her example of charity, love and generosity. I hope my children will know how much she loved them. I love you so much Granny and I promise that each time I give my kids strawberry milk to tell them all about my lovely Granny.

Dirty 30

Jackson celebrated his 30th birthday in July. We had 30 candles that required a blow torch to light, party hats and had a swimming BBQ at Derek's house. Happy 30th Jacks!

Houston

We took a road trip to Houston to visit friends and family down there. The car was packed to the brim but we all made it in one piece. We had a great time, despite the suffocating levels of humidity. In case you were wondering Austin is not nearly as humid or muggy as Houston!

30 things about Jackson for his 30th birthday

1. He can sleep like the living dead. It takes nothing smaller than a freight train to wake this guy up.
2. Speaking of sleep, he regularly has nightmares that a baby is bring suffocated in the bed, on the laundry pile and/or hanging from the ceiling fan.
3. This guy loves his babies and they love him. Next to the ceiling fan they give him more smiles than anything else.
4. His signature look in high school included some mean sideburns and knee high socks.
5. He has a lot of close, meaningful friendships. I think that says a lot about the guy.
6. His current daily wardrobe starts with scrubs and ends with basketball shorts and a t- shirt ( his dream come true). If he is feeling fancy, khaki shorts come out. Really fancy is when the collared shirt comes out.
7. He is a man of simple pleasures. Root beer and sports center make him happy.
8. He loves to save money. A trait that has helped him learn all manner of handyman jobs via YouTube. He recently repaired the tv.
9. Due to the above he has given himself a bloody nose. Thank you Taurus and your stubborn belt thing.
10. He can shoots three pointers like nobody's business. And he has the trophies and scoring records to prove it. Everyone wants Jackson on their team and taking the last shot.
11. He has become a big reader.
12. He had a pager in high school.
13. He gave in once and played credit card roulette with his friends. He lost. It was the most expensive shake ever.
14. He loves cats. When we go for walks he tries to coax every cat to come to him so he can pet them. I think he secretly wants to be a cat whisperer
15. He has very specific thoughts on proper backyard basketball hoops. His parents basketball court is his dream backyard court, four hoops.
16. He and his brother created a secret language when they were kids.
17. All it takes is one secret word from one of his brothers and he starts laughing like it is going out of style.
18. He does not enjoy riding bikes on skinny trails.
19. I am pretty sure One Shining Moment is his favorite part of the NCAA basketball tournament.
20. He lives and dies by Costco. That being said he also has an ongoing competition with Costco. If he comes out with only what was on the list, he wins. If he comes out with things not on the list Costco wins.
21. He prefers driving barefoot to driving with flip flops.
22. He loves to find hole in the wall restaurants.
23. Jackson is funny but prefers to have a small audience. For example, one year at Yankee swap Jackson made a joke about one of the gifts to griffin who consequently could not stop laughing. When everyone wanted to know why griffin was laughing so hard jacks just smiled and griffin had to retell the joke.
24. Speaking of Griffin, he was a perfect friend for Jackson. Jackson could satisfy his curiosity on all manner of dangerous acts and stunts by daring Griffin to do them.
25.Jackson has never had a strong preference for who cuts his hair until recently. He is now a regular customer at a local barbershop solely because they use a straight razor on his neck ( and make no comments on how low the hair goes, unlike the girls at great clips) and put heated towels on his neck. He thinks it is amazing.
26. He loves to play ping pong, in any form. In college he would play a form of ping pong that included hitting the ball as hard as possible at the bare back of your opponent. Welts on the back was the result.
27. After going on a cruise in January he has decided it is one of the best ways to travel. Beaches, pools, basketball, various day trips and most importantly an endless supply of "fee" food. He took full advantage of the food ordering two entrees, an appetizer and two or three desserts every night.
28. Despite his dislike for dancing ( he would joke that he prefers holding up the walls at dances).he is almost unbeatable at just dance on the wii.
29. He doesn't like dressing up for Halloween so he finds creative ways to wear normal clothes while satisfying my requirement of dressing up. From a modern day Abraham Lincoln to Kyle whittingham.
30. He is just mostly the best guy ever and we love him. Happy birthday Jacks, here's to the next thirty. May they be as good as the first thirty.
